Buying a brand new boat is an exciting experience. Depending on the type of boat, you often get the opportunity to work with the boat builder to customise the boat to your style and requirements. At the top end of the luxury cruiser and yacht market, some boat manufacturers give buyers a choice of deck layout, interior fit-outs including room configurations and accommodation variations and interior finishings, fixtures and fittings. You have the opportunity to tailor your new boat to your boating style, purpose and the number of guests you intend to accommodate.
With power boats, especially in the trailer boat category, you can decide on boat and engine separately to create the package that specifically suits your needs. Many dealers will offer great deals on packages.
Boat shows are a great place to see a lot of new boats for sale in the one place. Shows are scheduled in many locations throughout the year, with the big shows being the Sydney International Boat Show, Sanctuary Cove Boat Show and Melbourne event. Smaller events are staged in many regional areas, often combined with caravan, camping and outdoor activities. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 calendar of boat shows was cancelled. Buying from a Dealer
Boat dealers may represent just one manufacturer or a selection. Some of the large boating centres are complete boating hubs with trailer boats, engines, accessories, trailers and service facilities all in the one place. Dealers are most often, authorised representatives for selected brands and will be up to speed with the technical product information that you need to make an informed buying decision.
Many dealers offer transportation services. So if you’re buying from interstate, they will arrange to transport your boat to your home port.
Dealers representing larger sized boats are located at marinas with floating displays so you can inspect the different models. Dealers of trailer boats and small sized categories usually have land-based centres so you can walk-around and see all the different models.
